I am excited to welcome you to our new Impact Newsletter — our way of sharing the lasting impact your support has on kids and families in our community. Each newsletter features updates about United Way of Salt Lake’s work in the “Program Update.” We also take a moment to highlight donors and volunteers whose generosity and commitment make this work possible. You will learn about our current policy agenda and legislative priorities in the “Advocacy Update,” and you will find a list of all upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and other ways to engage with us.

In our first edition, I invite you to read about our ongoing commitment to early childhood initiatives that support our youngest Utahns and their families. With the help of our partners, we’re laying the foundation for children in our community so they can be successful in school and in life.

In other news, our new website is now live! I encourage you to explore the different areas of our work and celebrate the impact your support makes in our community. Finally, please join me in welcoming new and returning members of United Way of Salt Lake’s Board of Directors under the new leadership of Board Chair, Candyce Fly Lee.

Thank you for your continued commitment and support of United Way of Salt Lake. Together, we are improving basic needs and education outcomes so 100% of kids and families in Utah can thrive.

With Gratitude,

PROGRAM UPDATE
Celebrating Promise Baby & You Cohort #3

The third cohort of Promise Baby & You wraps up this week in South Salt Lake, making a total of 83 families who have completed the program since its launch in January 2025. With support from United Way of Salt Lake donors and volunteers, this free, 9-week workshop series helps new and expecting parents and caregivers of children ages 0-3 to learn strategies to support their child’s development. Another cohort is scheduled for this fall, and we plan to help more families in 2026. Hopefully, with additional support, we will expand the program into other Utah communities in the future. “It helped me to be more confident being a caregiver because being a first-time mom, it’s scary. So being in this program, knowing different things that could help you to make sure that you’re giving your child what they need was just amazing.”
- Shanyce, Promise Baby & You Graduate

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Women United Supports Promise Baby & You

Women United is a group of committed advocates who remove barriers for Utah families through service, giving, and grassroots leadership. This group of passionate individuals rallied early around Promise Baby & You, offering funding, gathering essential baby supplies, coordinating volunteers, and helping spread the word to families. Members Lauren Call and Stephanie Ballantyne played a pivotal role in building momentum, leading initial planning efforts, and mobilizing support to bring the program to life. Their dedication — from hosting celebrations to organizing donation drives — reflects the true spirit of Women United: to remove barriers and create opportunities for Utah families. With the support of their leadership and collective action, Promise Baby & You has grown from one cohort a year to four, providing a strong start for our community’s youngest scholars. ADVOCACY UPDATE
Understand How Federal Legislation Impacts Utahns

A flurry of recent federal public policy actions could negatively impact Utah's children and families. As a result of several new executive orders as well as the enactment of "The Big Beautiful Bill," thousands of Utahns are at risk of losing health coverage and food assistance. Additional funding freezes also put out-of-school time programs and other partner programs at risk. Utahns across the state rely on these investments in their future and well-being, and United Way of Salt Lake is advocating to ensure that these programs remain viable. When the Utah legislature reconvenes for Appropriations and Interim committees later this month, United Way of Salt Lake will be there to fight for Utah's families.
