About US
United Way of Salt Lake focuses on two things:
We help families meet their basic needs, and we ensure kids have access to quality education.
We believe every child and family in Utah deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. We rally dedicated donors, enthusiastic volunteers, and passionate advocates to fuel measurable progress toward our vision: 100% of kids and families thriving. By uniting community members, local businesses, and advocates, we mobilize the resources, hands-on service, and public support needed to break down barriers and build lasting opportunities.
Together, we are creating a future where every Utahn feels supported, valued, and empowered to thrive.

History
United Way of Salt Lake was founded in 1904 as the Salt Lake Charity Association and began its legacy serving as a community chest to address poverty. Today, United Way of Salt Lake mobilizes deep community expertise, vital partnerships, and transformative resources to ensure every Utah child and family can achieve their potential.
211 was launched in Utah to create a simple, universal way for individuals to navigate the complex social services network. In 2011, operation of 211 Utah transitioned from the Utah Food Bank to United Way of Salt Lake. Today, 211 Utah is a collaborative service of the United Ways of Utah in partnership with social service organizations to ensure everyone can access vital services, resources, and support with ease and dignity.
In 2013, United Way of Salt Lake and essential partners in government, education, health, and social services founded Promise Partnership Utah—a collective impact initiative that unites leaders across sectors to ensure every young person in Utah has access to quality education. As the initiative grew, United Way of Salt Lake and its trusted partners launched Promise Partnership Utah as an independent community-led collective to align around systemic challenges and share accountability for achieving goals.
In 2023, United Way of Salt Lake, the backbone team for Promise Partnership Utah, 211 Utah’s Salt Lake City team, and Utah’s Promise were joined as one brand ecosystem. Together, we are committed to ensuring every Utahn has access to vital services, resources, and quality education so 100% of kids and families are thriving.
